Application of the principle
Capacitive inductor based on spring is a robust alternative to traditional mechanical switch. However, in some applications, the PCB cannot be placed directly under the overlay or attached to the device housing. Such applications include home appliances such as stoves, washing machines, refrigerators and microwave ovens, as well as vehicle electronics such as radios, television tuners, control panels and occupant detection systems on seats.
Metal spring sensors - can be used as an alternative to solid state conductance sensors so that the PCB is positioned away from the overlay and provides a reliable sensor connection under operating conditions of intense vibration or rapid temperature changes. In addition, the spring can provide backlit lighting, fusion machinery and capacitive buttons, among other functions.
Folded electric field simulation
In order to compare the behavior between a spring sensor and a solid-state conductance sensor, it is necessary to model the electric field of the relevant object. When modeling solid state conductance sensors and spring sensors, we assume the following:
· Cover is inorganic glass: relative dielectric constant E = 4.2; Thickness = 4 mm.
· Model the finger as a metal ellipsoid: height = 20 mm; Diameter = 10 mm.
· Solid state conductance inductor is solid state metal ring: diameter = 10 mm; Thickness = 0.1mm.
· Spring inductor is modeled with hollow metal cylinder: height = 20 mm; Diameter = 10 mm; Metal thickness = 1mm.
The spring is slightly more sensitive than a solid-state conductance sensor with a thicker cover because it generates a larger electric field.
