Duplex stainless steel has the following performance characteristics:
(1) Molybdenum duplex stainless steel has good chloride stress corrosion resistance under low stress. Generally 18-8 austenitic stainless steel in 600C above neutral chloride solution is prone to stress corrosion fracture, in trace chloride and hydrogen sulfide industrial medium with this kind of stainless steel heat exchanger, evaporator and other equipment have a tendency to produce stress corrosion fracture, and dual-phase stainless steel has good resistance.
(2) Molybdenum duplex stainless steel has good corrosion resistance. The critical pitting potential of duplex stainless steel is similar to that of austenitic stainless steel when PRE=Cr%+3.3×Mo%+16×N%. The corrosion resistance of duplex stainless steel and austenitic stainless steel is similar to AISI 316L. The resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion of high Chromium duplex stainless steel containing 25%Cr, especially high chromium duplex stainless steel containing nitrogen, exceeds AISI 316L.
(3) Has good corrosion resistance fatigue and wear corrosion performance. In some corrosive medium conditions, suitable for the production of pumps, valves and other power equipment.
(4) Good comprehensive mechanical properties. With high strength and fatigue strength, the yield strength is twice that of 18-8 austenitic stainless steel. The elongation of solid solution state reaches 25%, and the toughness value AK (V-notch) is above 100J.
(5) good weldability, small hot crack tendency, general welding without preheating, welding without heat treatment, and 18-8 austenitic stainless steel or carbon steel and other dissimilar welding.
(6) Dual-phase stainless steel with low chromium (18%Cr) thermal processing temperature range is wider than 18-8 austenitic stainless steel, small resistance, without forging, direct rolling production plate. Duplex stainless steel with high chromium (25%Cr) is slightly more difficult to hot process than austenitic stainless steel and can be used to produce plate, tube and wire products.
(7) Cold processing than 18-8 austenitic stainless steel work hardening effect, in the tube, plate bearing deformation early, need to apply greater stress to deformation.
(8) compared with austenitic stainless steel, thermal conductivity is large, linear expansion coefficient is small, suitable for equipment lining and production of composite plate. Also suitable for the production of heat exchanger tube core, heat transfer efficiency is higher than austenitic stainless steel.
(9) There are still various brittleness tendencies of high chromium ferritic stainless steel, which should not be used in working conditions higher than 3000C. The lower the chromium content in duplex stainless steel, the less the harm of σ and other brittle phases.
