Low Seat Height Stand-Assist Foldable MRI Safe Non-Magnetic Wheelchair for MRI Rooms
Function: The Low-Ambulation Non-Magnetic MRI Wheelchair is designed for patients who can walk short distances but need a wheelchair for longer corridors or for periods of fatigue. The chair features a lower seat height (16 inches from floor) than standard wheelchairs, allowing the patient's feet to rest flat on the ground when seated. This low seat height makes it easy for the patient to stand up from the chair without assistance – the patient simply pushes up from the armrests, and their feet are already in position. The chair also includes a "stand-assist" feature: when the patient presses a lever on the side of the seat, a non-magnetic gas spring pushes the front of the seat upward slightly (5 degrees of tilt), helping to lift the patient into a standing position. The armrests are extra-sturdy and reinforced to support the patient's weight during standing.
Application: This wheelchair is for patients who are ambulatory but have limited endurance, such as those with heart failure, COPD, multiple sclerosis, or deconditioning from a prolonged hospital stay. In the MRI setting, these patients can walk from the waiting area to the changing room, but may need a wheelchair for the longer walk to the MRI suite. The low seat height and stand-assist feature allow them to get in and out of the chair independently, preserving their dignity and reducing the need for staff assistance. The chair is also useful for patients who are anxious about lying down on the MRI table; they can sit in the wheelchair until the last moment, then stand and step onto the table. For patients who require a standing transfer (e.g., those with hip replacements who cannot sit on low surfaces), the stand-assist feature provides the extra lift needed.
