Bariatric MRI Wheelchair with 600 Pounds Capacity 24 Inches Seat Width and Non-Magnetic Frame
Function: The Bariatric Non-Magnetic MRI Wheelchair is engineered to safely transport larger patients (up to 600 pounds) into the MRI suite. The chair features a widened seat (24 inches) and reinforced frame constructed from titanium-reinforced polymer. The frame has been tested to withstand 750 pounds without permanent deformation – 25 percent above rated capacity. The seat is a single-piece fiberglass laminate with a non-slip textured surface and a 3-inch foam cushion for pressure relief. The armrests are extra-wide (3 inches) and height-adjustable to accommodate patients with larger arm girth. The footrests are oversized and reinforced with aluminum cross-bracing. The rear wheels are 24 inches with solid rubber tires and heavy-duty composite push rims. The front casters are 8 inches in diameter – larger than standard – to distribute weight and roll smoothly over thresholds.
Application: This wheelchair is essential for MRI facilities that serve bariatric patients. Obesity rates continue to rise, and bariatric patients require MRI for the same indications as the general population – stroke, joint disorders, and cancer staging. Standard wheelchairs are not safe for patients over 300 pounds; using an underspecified chair risks structural failure and patient injury. This bariatric wheelchair allows safe transport from the hospital bed or waiting area to the MRI scanner. For bariatric patients who cannot stand, the chair’s removable armrests and swing-away footrests enable a lateral transfer onto a bariatric MRI table (also available from the manufacturer). The chair’s extra width also accommodates patients with large abdomen or hip circumferences who would not fit in a standard chair.
