68mm X 220m Nylon Mooring Rope 2 Meter Splice Eyes Both Ends Mildew Resistance
68mm X 220m Nylon Mooring Rope 2 Meter Splice Eyes Both Ends Mildew Resistance
An 8-strand nylon mooring rope (also known as *8-plait* or octoplait) is a type of synthetic rope constructed from eight interwoven strands of nylon filaments or yarns. The plaited (braided) construction provides a round, smooth, and flexible rope with excellent load distribution and high resistance to kinking, twisting, and hockling. Nylon is chosen for its superior elasticity, strength, and shock-absorption capabilities.
Key Features
-
High Strength & Durability
-
Nylon has a high tensile strength, making it suitable for heavy-duty mooring, towing, and anchor lines.
-
Excellent abrasion resistance against chafing from docks, buoys, or seabed contact.
-
-
Elasticity & Shock Absorption
-
Nylon can stretch up to 15–25% under load, absorbing sudden forces (e.g., waves, wind gusts) and reducing peak loads on cleats, bitts, and vessel structures.
-
-
Flexibility & Easy Handling
-
8-strand plaited construction remains soft and supple, even when wet or under tension.
-
Resists twisting and stays manageable during coiling, splicing, and throwing.
-
-
Floats on Water
-
Unlike some twisted ropes, the plaited construction traps air, causing the rope to float. This helps avoid propeller entanglement and makes it easier to see and retrieve.
-
-
UV & Mildew Resistance
-
UV-stabilized nylon resists degradation from prolonged sun exposure. It also does not rot or mildew when wet.
-
-
Good Chemical Resistance
-
Resists damage from oils, fuels, and common marine chemicals (though prolonged exposure to strong acids or alkalis should be avoided).
-
-
Spliceable
-
Can be easily spliced (using traditional or locked brummel splices) to create eyes, loops, or endless slings.

Applications
-
Marine Mooring
-
Primary use for securing boats, yachts, ships, and pontoons to docks, buoys, or anchors.
-
Often used as spring lines and breast lines due to its shock-absorbing quality.
-
-
Towing & Warping
-
Suitable for low-stretch towing lines where some elasticity is beneficial (e.g., recreational towing, inland waterway barge handling).
-
-
Anchor Lines/Rodes
-
Used as an alternative to chain or 3-strand twist for anchoring, especially where shock absorption is needed.
-
-
Commercial Fishing & Aquaculture
-
Deployed for net hauls, longline systems, and securing cages/pens due to its flexibility and durability.
-
-
Marine Safety & Rescue
-
Used as heaving lines or throw lines because it floats and remains easy to handle.
-
-
General Marine & Industrial Use
-
Dock fender lashings, temporary rigging, and industrial slings where energy absorption is critical.
