MIG welding has been around for almost a century. Invented in 1915, it is the most popular process used to weld together metal parts. The process uses electricity and an inert filler gas to create an arc that melts the material at the joint so it can be welded together. The electrodes are held by grips, which are made of tungsten carbide or imbedded graphite rods, each channeled down one side of the handle to keep them cool while they are being used.
