Removal Procedure

Typical example
Loosen all of the bolts that fasten the fan guard assembly to the fan shroud. Remove fan guard assembly (1) from the fan shroud.
Loosen bolts (2) and slide alternator (3) toward the engine.
Maneuver V-belts (4) around the fan and remove the V-belts. Note: Never replace one V-belt. Always replace sets of V-belts, if equipped.Installation Procedure

Install V-belts (4) behind the fan and on the correct pulleys.
Slide alternator (3) away from the engine. Tighten bolts (2) and check the belt tension. Refer to Specifiions , RENR2401, "Belt Tension Chart" for the correct belt tension. Note: If the V-belt cannot be checked with a gauge, press on the V-belt at the center of the longest free length in order to check the deflection. Under a moderate amount of pressure, the V-belt should have a deflection of 10.0 mm (0.40 inch).
Put fan guard assembly (1) in position on the fan shroud. Install the bolts that fasten the fan guard assembly to the fan shroud.

Remove Piston Cooling Tubes
start by: a) remove engine oil coolerb) remove fresh water pumpc) remove startersd) remove engine oil pumpe) remove oil pressure relief valve1. Fasten a hoist and remove the prelubriion oil pump and motor as a unit (if so equipped). Weight is 105 lb. (47.3 kg).2. Remove the wire harness and plate for prelubriion oil pump and motor. 3. Remove the bolts (1) that hold inspection covers to cylinder block. Remove inspection covers (2) from each side of block. 4. Remove the bolt (3) and lock that hold tube to bottom side of lifter bracket. Remove the piston cooling tubes (4).Install Piston Cooling Tubes
1. check the alignment of the piston cooling tubes with tooling (A). See USE OF 5P8709 TOOL GROUP FOR ALIGNMENT OF PISTON COOLING JETS, Form No. SMHS7267, for the correct alignment procedure. 2. Install the piston cooling tubes (1) in position on the lifter bracket. Install the locks and bolts.3. Install the inspection covers on engine.4. Install wire harness and plate for prelubriion oil pump and motor. Fasten a hoist and install prelubriion oil pump and motor as a unit (if so equipped).end by: a) install engine oil pumpb) install fresh water pumpc) install engine oil coolerd) install oil pressure relief valvee) install starters
