Diagnostic Trouble Codes for the Intake Valve Actuators
J1939 Code CDL Code Description Information
2950-5 1901-5 Engine Intake Valve Actuator #1 : Current Below Normal The ECM monitors the current flow through the circuit for each actuator. If low current flow (open circuit) is detected, a -5 diagnostic code is activated. The ECM continues to try to activate the actuator. If high current flow (short circuit) is detected, a -6 diagnostic trouble code is activated. The ECM will disable the solenoid circuit in order to prevent damage from the high current flow. However, the ECM will periodically try to activate the actuator. If the short circuit remains, this sequence of events will be repeated until the problem is corrected.
The ECM takes the following actions while the code is active:
Engine power is derated by ten percent.
The amber warning lamp is illuminated.
These codes are usually caused by a wiring problem. The wiring problem can be on the outside of the engine or underneath the valve cover.

- - - The following bolts are 194 mm (7.6 inch) long: bolt 1 through bolt 10, 15, 17, 19, 21, 23, and 25
The following bolts are 215.9 mm (8.5 inch) long: bolt 11 through bolt 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24, and 26
Apply 6V-4876 Lubricant to the bolt threads and both sides of the hard washers.
Use the following procedure to tighten the bolts of the cylinder head:
Tighten the bolt 1 through bolt 26 in a numerical sequence to 270 15 N m (200 11 lb ft).
Tighten the bolt 1 through bolt 26 in a numerical sequence to 450 15 N m (330 11 lb ft).
Again, tighten the bolt 1 through bolt 26 in a numerical sequence to 450 15 N m (330 11 lb ft).
The flatness of the cylinder head should be within a total of 0.13 mm (0.005 inch). Also, the flatness of the cylinder head should be within a maximum of 0.05 mm (0.002 inch) for any 150 mm (6.0 inch) span.
