A gearbox or transmission system in an automobile is a machine which uses multiple gears, shafts and actuating parts to transmit power from engine to the wheels.

The counter shaft is the longest among the three shafts in the gearbox. It features multiple gears of various sizes that enable a wide range of torque production. The counter shaft rotates at a different but constant speed similar to the clutch shaft.

The clutch shaft or driving shaft receives power from the engine and transfers it to other shafts. Connected via clutch mechanism, the driving shaft rotates when the clutch is engaged and contains a single fixed gear.
