Tempered glass is safety glass with increased strength both physically and thermally. It is heated up to about 700 degrees and then rapidly quenched, the toughening will create "balanced internal stresses" which would mean that if broken the glass would crumble into small, less harmful pieces as opposed to dangerous large shards. Tempered glass is 4-5 times stronger than annealed. Tempered glass can be made into straight, flat panels, and also can be made into curved.
