Spherical Graphite

Spherical graphite is made by micronizing, rounding, and purifying flake graphite. This increases the surface area and conductivity which creates an enhanced battery anode product. The round shape also results in a higher density in the battery, better capacity and longer life.

Application: Anode material for Li-ion batteries.

1.What is spherical graphite?
 
Spherical graphite (SpG), also known as battery-grade graphite, is the product that is consumed as an anode in lithium-ion batteries. Flake graphite concentrate is processed into ultra-high-purity (>99.95% C) with particle sizes ranging from 10 micron to 25 micron. These are then used as a battery anode material.
 
2.How do you make spherical graphite?
 
Spherical graphite is manufactured from flake graphite concentrates produced by graphite mines and is the battery anode material (“BAM”) used in lithium ion batteries (“LiBs”). The first part of the process consists of micronizing, rounding and purifying flake graphite to produce uncoated (“uSPG”).
 
3.What are the applications of spherical graphite?
 
Spherical graphite (SPG) is ideal for use as a raw material for anodes. Its smooth, small surface prevents flaking and ensures low irreversible capacity loss and long service life. Due to its high tap density, high charging is achieved and consequently energy density is higher.
