Product Description

Introduction of Digtial Sniffer

The digital sniffer, also known as a quantitative sniffer or sniffing probe, is used for close-range, quantitative detection of minute helium leaks on workpiece surfaces. Its gun body is typically constructed from engineering plastics and metal, with a length ranging from 2.5 to 10 meters. Its core function is to draw in leaking helium and display the concentration reading in real time, enabling precise localization and leakage rate estimation.

Product Name Digital Sniffer
Probe Material Stainless Steel
Size 2.5m, 5m, 10m

Function of Digtial Sniffer

The digital sniffer gun is the core tool for the "sniffing method" of leak detection. Its functionality far exceeds that of ordinary mechanical sniffers, with the key advantage lying in the quantitative capability provided by its digital display.
Precise Leak Localization:
The operator holds the sniffer gun and moves its tip slowly 1-2mm above the surface of the workpiece. When passing a leak point, escaping helium is drawn into the gun.
The instrument screen displays the helium concentration reading in real time. A sudden increase in the reading indicates the presence of a leak point directly below or near the tip, enabling millimeter-level precise localization.
Quantitative or Semi-Quantitative Measurement:
This is the fundamental difference between digital and ordinary sniffers. It not only "finds" leaks but also estimates the leak rate by measuring peak concentration readings.
Through calibration with a "standard leak" performed simultaneously on the tested workpiece, a correlation between concentration readings and actual leak rates can be established. This allows for semi-quantitative assessment of unknown leak rates, providing data support for quality decisions.
Avoiding Helium Contamination and Interference:
Unlike the "spray method," the sniffing method is a passive sampling technique that does not introduce additional helium into the system. This prevents helium accumulation in the detection area, which could elevate background levels and affect subsequent tests or the inspection of other components.
Suitability for Pressure Vessels and Complex Systems:
For pressure vessels already filled with helium or helium mixtures, the sniffing method is the only effective way to detect external leaks. It is well-suited for rapid, non-destructive leak screening of systems such as air conditioning units, automotive fuel tanks, and engine components on production lines or in the field.
