A switching power supply is a power supply device that converts AC mains electricity into the various stable DC voltages required by equipment. Its housing is typically made of galvanized steel sheet or aluminum alloy, with complex electronic circuitry inside. The dimensions are highly standardized, and its core function is to provide stable, clean, and controlled electrical power.

Function of Switching Power Supply

The role of a switching power supply extends far beyond merely "supplying power"—it directly impacts the performance, stability, and lifespan of the entire instrument.
AC-DC Conversion and Voltage Transformation:
Converts the alternating current from the grid into the low-voltage direct current required by electronic circuits.
Providing Multiple Stable Voltages:
Different components inside a helium mass spectrometer leak detector require different operating voltages. The switching power supply can provide multiple isolated and highly stable DC outputs, such as +5V, ±12V, +24V, and high voltage (several hundred volts), to power all circuits including the ion source, amplifier, vacuum gauge, solenoid valves, processor, and more.
Stabilization and Filtering:
Eliminates fluctuations and noise from the mains power, ensuring that the voltage supplied to precision circuits is "clean" and stable. This is fundamental to the stability of the mass spectrometer’s signals and the accuracy of measurements, as any power supply ripple can lead to increased background noise or erratic readings.
