Stainless steel is an alloy of Iron with a minimum of 10.5% Chromium. Chromium produces a thin layer of oxide on the surface of the steel known as the 'passive layer'. This prevents any further corrosion of the surface. Increasing the amount of Chromium gives an increased resistance to corrosion.

Stainless steel also contains varying amounts of Carbon, Silicon and Manganese. Other elements such as Nickel and Molybdenum may be added to impart other useful properties such as enhanced formability and increased corrosion resistance.

Our stainless steel coil/strip is available in 300, 400 and 200 series. Each type has its own characteristics. The most popular grade is 304, which can be easily roll formed or formed, and is one of the most popular grades due to its excellent corrosion resistance and weldability. 316 is an alloy containing molybdenum for improved corrosion resistance and is particularly effective in acidic environments due to its higher resistance to pitting corrosion. 321 is a variant of 304 plus titanium, which is resistant to intergranular corrosion and has excellent weldability. Type 430 is a ferritic stainless steel alloy with good corrosion resistance primarily used in the home and restaurant industry.
