321 Stainless Steel Description
321 stainless steel is a Ni-Cr-Ti type austenitic stainless steel with good general corrosion resistance,excellent wear resistance, high temperature resistance and creep resistance,mainly composed of iron, chromium (17.00-19.00%), nickel (9.00-12.00%),and titanium (5C-0.70%), and the carbon content does not exceed 0.08%.Due to the addition of titanium, 321 stainless steel can effectively prevent the formation of chromium carbide in high temperature environments, thereby improving its resistance to intergranular corrosion
321 is basically a 304 grade containing a stabilizer of titanium, similar in machinability to 304 stainless steel. Commonly used for service in the 1000-1600°F temperature range. For service temperatures up to about 1600°F, a stabilizing treatment at 1550-1650°F, air cool, may be used to provide optimum resistance to intergranular corrosion and to polythionic acid stress corrosion cracking.
