Woodland camouflage is the default camouflage pattern for US Army personnel and was originally issued with the famous Battle Dress Uniform (BDU). The term itself is usually applied to the US M/81 "Woodland" camouflage, which in turn was derived from the M1948 ERDL pattern. Introduced in 1981, Woodland camouflage is a 4-colour, high-contrast disruptive pattern with four asymmetrical markings of sand, brown, green and black, which has proved effective in most woodland, jungle and tropical environments.
