Elevator wire ropes are engineered with special provisions considering rated load and traction size. The tensile strength exceeds elevator weight with a safety factor greater than four, ensuring they won't break simultaneously.

During power failure, electrical and mechanical safety devices automatically stop the elevator. Brakes engage automatically, and planned outages include prior notification.

Doors automatically restart if touched during closing. Anti-clamping switches prevent closure when obstacles are detected, and closing force is carefully regulated.
