The disadvantage of this series of materials is that the chromium content of less than 18% and low nickel content does not reach a balance and the formation of ferrite, for this reason, the chromium content in the 200 series of stainless steel down to 13.5% to 15%, in some cases down to 13% to 14%, its corrosion resistance is not comparable to 304 and other similar steels. In addition, in the deposition area and crevice of the corrosion site common acidic conditions, manganese and in some cases copper reduces the role of repassivation. 200 series steel in these conditions is destroyed at a rate of about 10-100 times that of 304 stainless steel. The residual sulfur and carbon content of these steels often cannot be controlled in production, and the material cannot be tracked retroactively, even in material recycling. If Cr-Mn steels are not accounted for, they can become a dangerous scrap mix, resulting in castings containing unexpectedly high manganese content. |
