What is a retort pouch?

The retort bag is made of multi-layer film material, which is made into a bag of a certain size after lamination. It has good heat sealing, heat resistance, water resistance, high strength and high barrier properties. It is also called as "Soft Can" because it is an ideal food packaging container. 

It is suitable for the packaging of meat and soy products, which is convenient, hygienic and practical, and it also well maintain the original flavor of the food, which is favored by consumers!

Why the retort pouch called as "Soft Can"?

It is understood that the earliest packaging that can store meat food at room temperature is canned food, which is an iron can made of tinplate, and later uses glass bottles as outer packaging.

Both tinplate and glass bottles have high temperature cooking resistance and high barrier properties, so the shelf life of canned food can reach more than 2 years. However, because tinplate cans and glass bottles are rigid packaging containers with large volume and heavy weight, tinplate has poor chemical corrosion resistance, especially when loaded with acidic food, metal ions are easily precipitated, which affects the flavor of food.

In the 1960s, the United States invented the aluminum-plastic composite film in order to solve the packaging of aerospace food. It is used to package meat food, and it can be stored at room temperature through high temperature and high pressure sterilization, with a shelf life of more than 1 year. The role of the aluminum-plastic composite film is similar to that of a can, which is soft and light, so it is called "soft can".
