Stainless steel piping has very good corrosion resistance. This quality holds in the full range of potable waters, including soft waters. Stainless steel will corrode with high chloride levels but is in general, more corrosion-resistant than copper.316 stainless steel stands up to corrosion better than 304 and its other counterparts. It even stands up to corrosion from some very harsh chemicals. This allows it to be used in highly acidic or caustic environments that would eat other metals away.316Ti is essentially 316 with the addition of some titanium(Ti) to reduce the risk of losing corrosion resistance in the heat-affected zone. An alternative to prevent this, is to reduce the carbon(C) level, which results in the grade 316L.
