Alloy 2205 (UNS S32305/S31803) is a duplex stainless steel composed of 22% chromium, 3% molybdenum and 5-6% nickel-nitrogen alloy. This composition delivers exceptional performance characteristics:
- High strength and excellent impact toughness
- Superior overall and local stress corrosion resistance
- Enhanced pitting and crevice corrosion resistance compared to 316L and 317L austenitic stainless steel
- Lower thermal expansion coefficient and higher thermal conductivity than austenitic stainless steel
- Compressive strength approximately twice that of austenitic stainless steel
- Cost-effective design with potential for weight reduction
