About Grade 321 Stainless Steel
Alloy 321 (UNS S32100) is a titanium-stabilized stainless steel that provides excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion following exposure to temperatures in the chromium carbide precipitation range from 800 to 1500°F (427 to 816°C). The addition of titanium stabilizes the alloy against chromium carbide formation.
This alloy offers superior high-temperature service capabilities with enhanced creep and stress rupture properties compared to Alloy 304 and 304L. It maintains excellent mechanical properties at elevated temperatures and provides good low-temperature toughness.
Alloy 321H (UNS S32109) is the higher carbon version (0.04 - 0.10) developed for improved creep resistance and higher strength at temperatures above 1000°F (537°C). The alloy cannot be hardened by heat treatment but can be strengthened through cold working, and it can be easily welded and processed using standard fabrication practices.
