Product Description
254 SMO Stainless Steel Plate - Premium Super Austenitic Alloy
Alloy 254 SMO is a premium super austenitic stainless steel plate with low carbon content, alloyed with high levels of molybdenum and nitrogen. This advanced material demonstrates exceptional resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, and corrosion fatigue. With strength nearly twice that of standard 300 series stainless steel, 254 SMO plates offer superior mechanical properties while maintaining high ductility and impact strength.
Key Applications
Due to its high molybdenum and nickel content, Alloy 254 SMO is ideal for demanding chloride environments including:
- Petroleum production equipment
- Saltwater handling systems
- Food and chemical processing equipment
- Pulp mill bleach systems
- Flue gas desulphurization scrubbers
- Tall oil distillation columns
- Offshore oil & gas production equipment
- Desalination equipment

Corrosion Resistance
Alloy 254 SMO provides excellent resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion due to its high chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen content. The very low carbon content minimizes carbide precipitation risk during heating. This material demonstrates outstanding performance in chloride-containing waters, making it suitable for prolonged seawater exposure without crevice corrosion issues.
