Grade Overview: Grades 321 and 347 are basic austenitic 18/8 steel (Grade 304) stabilized by Titanium (321) or Niobium (347) additions. These grades resist intergranular corrosion after heating within 425-850°C. Grade 321 is ideal for applications up to 900°C, offering high strength, scaling resistance, phase stability, and subsequent aqueous corrosion resistance.
Grade 321H
A modification of 321 with higher carbon content for improved high-temperature strength.
Welding Considerations
Grade 321 is not recommended as a welding consumable due to poor titanium transfer across high-temperature arcs. Grade 347 is the preferred consumable for welding 321, though 347 is rarely used as parent plate material.
Material Characteristics
Excellent forming and welding characteristics, readily brake or roll-formed with outstanding welding properties. Post-weld annealing is not required. Excellent toughness even at cryogenic temperatures. Note: Grade 321 does not polish well and is not recommended for decorative applications.
