Technical Overview
321 stainless steel is a titanium-stabilized grade optimized for high-temperature service. For temperatures up to 1600°F, a stabilizing treatment at 1550-1650°F with air cooling provides optimal resistance to intergranular corrosion and polythionic acid stress corrosion cracking.
This grade is readily weldable by all common methods including submerged arc, with appropriate weld fillers being AWS ER347 bare wire and E347 covered electrodes. It features a machinability rating of 45% relative to AISI B1112.
