Key Features of S32760 Super Duplex Stainless Steel
S32760 duplex steel offers exceptional resistance to chloride corrosion, high thermal conductivity, and low coefficient of thermal expansion. The elevated chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen content provide superior resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and other corrosive attacks. The comprehensive performance of S32760 exceeds that of standard duplex steels like 2205 and S31803.
This material demonstrates resistance to various inorganic and organic acids. The copper addition enhances resistance to non-oxidative acid corrosion. S32760 also withstands strong alkali corrosion, though prolonged exposure above 300°C is not recommended as it may reduce material toughness.
Originally developed in the 1980s as cast steel to address corrosion resistance limitations in second-generation duplex stainless steels, S32760 evolved into a deformable material for pipeline systems. It has become essential in oil and gas development, seawater environments, flue gas desulfurization (FGD), desalination, and chemical applications.
The inclusion of tungsten and copper, initially for improved casting properties, was later found to enhance corrosion resistance in specific acids and passivation capability in seawater. The microstructure features a balanced α/γ two-phase structure under proper solid solution conditions, requiring controlled cooling rates to prevent precipitation of intermetallic phases and nitrides.
