This product tends to absorbing moisture, so place it in a cool and dry place under a temperature less than 25ºC and use it up as soon as possible within 6 months. Synthesis of Urea Formaldehyde (UF) Moulding Compound
1. Raw Materials & Reaction Mechanism
- Core Components:
- Urea (CH₄N₂O) and formaldehyde (CH₂O) in a molar ratio of 1:1.5–2.0 to ensure proper cross-linking.
- Catalysts:
- Alkaline catalysts (e.g., NaOH) for initial polymerization.
- Acidic catalysts (e.g., NH₄Cl or HCOOH) for curing.
- Additives: Optional modifiers (e.g., polyvinyl alcohol or melamine) to enhance mechanical/thermal properties.
2. Synthesis Steps
Step 1: Hydroxymethylation
- Conditions:
- Mix urea and formaldehyde in alkaline conditions (pH 7.2–8.4) at 40–45°C for 10–30 minutes.

Step 2: Condensation Polymerization
- Acid-Catalyzed Reaction:
- Adjust pH to 5.1–5.4 using NH₄Cl or HCOOH to initiate polycondensation.

- Monitor viscosity to determine reaction completion.
Step 3: Neutralization & Stabilization
- Adjust pH back to neutral or weakly alkaline (pH 7–8) to stabilize the resin.

- Additives:
- Fillers (e.g., cellulose or wood flour) for mechanical strength2.
- Curing accelerators (e.g., ZnSO₄ or oxalate esters) for faster cross-linking.
- Processing:
- Dry and grind the resin into powder.
- Mix with additives and press under 15–30 MPa at 130–160°C to form moulded parts
