Can galvanized steel be welded?
Galvanized steels are welded easily and satisfactorily by most commonly practised welding techniques. Closer control of welding conditions than for uncoated steel is usually necessary but procedures are simple and well established.
Key points related to the processing method of galvanized coil
1. Cold-rolled and hot-rolled steel sheets are degreasing by alkali, washed with water, dried, and then annealed in a horizontal (vertical) heating furnace heated by radiant tubes. A certain amount of hydrogen was introduced into the furnace to reduce the atmosphere of the early layers in the furnace.
2. The steel strip heated to a certain temperature is immersed in a zinc solution under certain conditions for hot-dip galvanizing.
3. The size of the spangle is controlled by the liquid zinc composition, and at the same time, it is controlled by the method of forced cooling. Before the spangle begins to spread, the small spangle product is quenched with a small spangle equipment to prevent the zinc liquid from continuing to spread to form a small spangle.
4. After hot-dip galvanizing, after working and cooling, the surface is finished. Finally, depending on the application, the surface is passivated or directly made into color-coated coil plates.
