Li-O2 batteries are known for high energy density compared to commonly used lithium ion batteries, and the adoption of inorganic molten salt electrolyte and noncarbonaceous nickel-nitrate composite cathode leads to stable cycling, reasonable capacity, good reversibility, and improved electrode kinetics. The feasibility of molten salt electrolyte system is confirmed when extended to Li-CO2 batteries, based on the achieved good cycling performance and specific capacity. Moreover, the purposed reaction mechanism of Li-CO2 batteries with discharge products of Li2CO3 and carbon is convincingly proved.
