ADBMS6830MWCSWZ Integrated Circuit Chip 16-Channel Battery Stack Monitor for Grid Energy Storage With I2C/SPI Interface
The ADBMS6830MWCSWZ is a multicell battery stack monitor that measures up to 16 series-connected battery cells. All cells can be measured simultaneously with two individual analog-to-digital converters (ADCs). Each channel includes a programmable digital low-pass filter. A second set of similar ADCs provides closely correlated measurements to ensure redundant measurement capability required to meet safety standards.
The ADBMS6830MWCSWZ allows bus bars to be bypassed and direct measurement of negative bus bar voltages. The device features a bidirectional isolated serial-port interface (isoSPI) for high-speed, RF-immune communication over simple twisted pair cables. Using the isoSPI interface, multiple ADBMS6830s may be connected in a daisy-chain configuration to a battery management system (BMS) controller enabling simultaneous monitoring of long, high-voltage strings of battery cells. The bidirectional feature also provides communication redundancy to protect against cable breaks along the chain.
The device is powered directly from the battery being measured by the linear regulator. It supports internal and external passive balancing with individually programmable pulse-width modulation (PWM) control. When in SLEEP state, the device draws only 4 µA, minimizing discharge of the battery stack.
