Product Overview

CH351 is a parallel port I/O expansion chip that incorporates two 16C550-compatible asynchronous serial ports or one EPP/ECP enhanced bidirectional parallel port. The asynchronous serial ports support automatic switching between half-duplex transmission and reception, with a maximum communication baud rate of 4 Mbps. It can be used for RS232 serial port expansion on the PCI bus, high-speed PCI serial ports with automatic hardware rate control, serial port networking, RS485 communication, and PCI expansion cards for parallel and printer ports, amongst other applications.

  • Two fully independent asynchronous serial ports, compatible with the 16C450, 16C550 and 16C552, with enhanced features
  • Supports 5, 6, 7 or 8 data bits and 1 or 2 stop bits
  • Supports parity modes including odd, even, no parity, blank 0 and flag 1
  • Programmable baud rate, supporting 115,200 bps and baud rates up to 4 Mbps
  • Built-in 16-byte FIFO (First-In-First-Out) buffer, supporting 4 FIFO trigger levels
  • Supports MODEM signals CTS, DSR, RI, DCD, DTR and RTS, which can be converted to RS232 levels by the 75232 chip
  • Supports hardware flow control signals CTS and RTS, automatic handshaking and automatic baud rate control; compatible with the TL16C550C
  • Supports serial frame error detection and Break signal detection
  • Supports full-duplex and half-duplex serial communication; provides DTR/TNOW serial transmission status signals and supports automatic switching between RS485 transmission and reception modes
  • Built-in clock oscillator; supports crystals with frequencies such as 22.1184 MHz
  • Supports IEEE 1284 parallel and printer port modes, including SPP, Nibble, Byte, PS/2, EPP and ECP
  • Supports bidirectional data transmission with a maximum transfer rate of up to 2 MB/s
  • Includes the pull-up resistors required for the printer port, minimising the number of external components and simplifying the circuit
