R-2280 Blue Undertone Titanium Dioxide Coating Excellent Whiteness Guaranteed
TINOX® R-2290
High-Performance TiO₂ for Advanced Plastic Applications
TINOX® R-2290 is specifically engineered for plastic applications, offering Class A weatherability, exceptional opacity (Reynolds ≥2000), and a superior blue undertone (SCX ≥4.4). Its unique Al/Si/Organic treatment provides excellent dispersion in all major polymer systems while maintaining low volatility and outstanding heat resistance.
Plastic Application Focus
1. Automotive Components
Key Applications: Interior trim, instrument panels, exterior mirror housings, under-hood components
R-2290 Advantages:
- Withstands automotive OEM weathering requirements (3000+ hours Xenon testing)
- Maintains color stability in high-heat environments (up to 120°C continuous)
- Resists UV degradation without additional stabilizers
Recommended Formulation (PP Compound):
| Polypropylene (PP) | 85-92% |
| TINOX R-2290 | 4-8% |
| Talc (reinforcement) | 5-10% |
| Additives (UV, stabilizers) | 1-2% |
Processing Tip: Use melt temperatures of 210-230°C for optimal dispersion in PP compounds.
2. Electronics Housings (ABS/PC)
Key Applications: Laptop cases, smartphone housings, TV bezels, appliance panels
R-2290 Advantages:
- Delivers premium "tech white" appearance with blue undertone
- Low volatility prevents outgassing in enclosed devices
- Excellent flow characteristics for thin-wall molding
Recommended Masterbatch Formulation:
| Carrier Resin (ABS or PS) | 50-60% |
| TINOX R-2290 | 40-50% |
| Dispersing Agents | 1-2% |
Processing Tip: For ABS applications, maintain screw speed at 60-70% of maximum to prevent shear heating.
3. Flexible Packaging (PE Films)
Key Applications: Food packaging, pharmaceutical blister packs, cosmetic containers
R-2290 Advantages:
- FDA-compliant for food contact applications
- Low oil absorption (≤19g/100g) maintains film flexibility
- Excellent dispersion prevents gel formation in thin films
Recommended Let-Down Ratios:
| Application | Masterbatch Concentration | Final Product Loading |
| Thin Films (<50μm) | 50% R-2290 | 1-2% |
| Rigid Containers | 40% R-2290 | 3-5% |
| Thick Sheets (>1mm) | 30% R-2290 | 5-8% |
Processing Tip: For blown films, optimize bubble stability by maintaining melt temperatures between 190-210°C.

Processing Recommendations
Masterbatch Production
- Use high-shear mixing (≥1000 rpm) for initial blending
- Maintain melt temperatures 10-15°C above polymer melting point
- Employ twin-screw extruders with L/D ≥40:1 for optimal dispersion
Final Product Processing
- For injection molding: Set back pressure to 50-80 bar
- In extrusion: Maintain consistent screw speed (±5%)
- For films: Balance orientation ratios to prevent opacity variation
