F436 washers, also known as high tensile washers, are commonly used in applications that require high strength and load-bearing capabilities. These washers distribute the load of the fastener over a larger area, providing increased stability and reducing the risk of damage to the fastened materials.
The size range of F436 washers is 1/4" to 4", meaning they can be used with fasteners ranging in diameter from 1/4 inch to 4 inches. This versatility makes them suitable for various construction and structural projects.
F436 washers are available with two common coating options: zinc plated and hot-dip galvanized (HDG).
Zinc plated F436 washers have a thin layer of zinc electroplated onto the surface of the washer. Zinc plating provides a sacrificial layer that helps protect the washer from corrosion. It offers moderate corrosion resistance and is commonly used in indoor or low-corrosion environments.
HDG F436 washers undergo a hot-dip galvanizing process. This involves immersing the washer in a bath of molten zinc, which forms a thicker and more durable zinc coating compared to zinc plating. HDG provides enhanced corrosion resistance and is suitable for applications exposed to outdoor, high-moisture, or corrosive environments.
When choosing between zinc plated and HDG F436 washers, consider the environmental conditions in which they will be used. If the application involves exposure to moisture, humidity, or corrosive substances, HDG F436 washers would provide better protection against corrosion. However, if the application is indoors or in a low-corrosion environment, zinc plated F436 washers may be sufficient.
