SAE washers or high tensile washers in the size range of 1/4" to 3" can also be available with zinc plated or hot-dip galvanized (HDG) finishes.
Zinc plated washers are coated with a layer of zinc through a process called electroplating. This coating provides a moderate level of corrosion resistance and helps to prevent rusting. Zinc plated washers are commonly used in various applications to protect the underlying metal from oxidation and enhance their appearance.
HDG, or hot-dip galvanized, refers to a process where the washers are dipped into a bath of molten zinc. This results in a thick, durable coating that provides excellent corrosion resistance. When SAE washers or high tensile washers are specified as "Zinc plated/HDG," it means that these washers can be available with either a zinc plated finish (electroplated zinc coating) or an HDG finish (hot-dip galvanized coating) depending on the specific requirements or preferences of the application.
