This alloy can be used as a working part below 150 °C. The strength of the 2024 alloy is higher than that of the 7075 alloy. The forming properties are better in the hot state, annealing and new quenching conditions, and the heat treatment strengthening effect is remarkable, but the heat treatment process is strict. Corrosion resistance is poor, but it can be effectively protected by coating with pure aluminum; it is easy to crack when welding, but it can be welded or riveted by special process.
2024 aluminum rod is a high-strength hard aluminum, which can be heat-treated and strengthened. It has medium plasticity in quenching and quenching conditions. Spot welding is good. There is a tendency to form intergranular cracks during gas welding. After quenching and cold hardening, the alloy can be used. The cutting performance is still good, the machinability is low after annealing: the corrosion resistance is not high, and the anodizing treatment and painting method or the surface is coated with aluminum layer to improve the corrosion resistance.
2024 is mainly used to make various high-load parts and components (but not including stampings forgings) such as skeleton parts, skins, partitions, ribs, spars, rivets and other working parts below 150 °C.
