Socket Weld Flange Design
Originally developed for small-size high-pressure piping applications, socket weld flanges provide static strength equivalent to slip-on flanges with 50% greater fatigue resistance than double-welded slip-on configurations.
Connection is achieved with a single fillet weld on the flange exterior. Proper assembly requires maintaining approximately 1/16" (1.6 mm) clearance between pipe end and socket shoulder as specified in ASME B31.1 standards.
