Elbow Radius

Stainless steel elbows, which are pipe fittings used to change the direction of a piping system, are available with different radius options. The radius of a stainless steel elbow refers to the curvature of the elbow's centerline.

Long Radius Elbow (LR): Long radius elbows have a larger radius, typically 1.5 times the nominal pipe diameter (1.5D). For example, a long radius elbow for a 6-inch pipe would have a radius of 9 inches. Long radius elbows provide a smoother flow path, reduced pressure drop, and less turbulence, making them suitable for applications where flow characteristics are critical.

Short Radius Elbow (SR): Short radius elbows have a smaller radius, typically equal to the nominal pipe diameter (1.0D). For instance, a short radius elbow for a 6-inch pipe would have a radius of 6 inches. Short radius elbows are more compact and require less space, making them suitable for tight or confined areas where a long radius elbow may not fit.

Class WP Fitting Categorizations

Class WP fittings are subdivided into three subclasses: Classes WP-S, WP-W. and WPWX. They are manufactured to the requirements of ANSI BI6.9, BI6.11, BI6.28, or MSS Standard Practice SP-79, and they have pressure ratings compatible with 9.2.

Class WP-S fittings are those manufactured from seamless product by a seamless method of manufacture (marked with class symbol WP-S);

Class WP-W fittings contain welds where the fitting fabrication or construction welds have been radiographed (marked with class symbol WP-W);

Class WP-WX fittings are those which contain welds where alI welds have been radiographed (marked with class symbol WP-WX).
