This module, the 1747-L553, is a part of the Allen Bradley SLC 500 series that has a number of useful applications such as HAVC control, small process controller and material handling. It has a process based on a PLC-5 and comes with a set of advanced instructions for user comprehensibility. This unit can either be set throughout the entire system for SCADA applications, or it can remain on its own. It can hold up to 64,000 words in total; 60,000 words may be used for data or program information, and 4,000 can be used for data alone. It also contains up to 480 analog I/O, with 4096 inputs and outputs. Still, its program scan time is 0.9 milliseconds per word, with an I/O scan time of 0.225 milliseconds.
The backplane current of the 1747-L553 is 5 Volts of DC (Direct Current) at 1 A, and 24 Volts DC at 0 A (175 mA). This unit has 3 local I/O chassis with 30 module slots for the local I/O chassis. It has both Ethernet and RS-2332 communication ports, configured for network communications, and it is connected to a 1761-NET-AIC converter. The Allen-Bradley 1747-L553 processor is an industrial modular processor. The SLC 5/05 1747-L553 processor supports a maximum of 64 connections with other devices and applications, out of which 4 are always incoming connections, 4 are always outgoing connections, and 56 can be either incoming or outgoing connections. The power consumption rating of the processor is 4 Watts and it draws 0 milliamps of current at 24 Volts DC and 1 Amp of current at 5 Volts DC. The 1747-L553 processor should not be installed or removed when the power is on and no wiring should be connected when the power is on. The processor should also not be exposed to surfaces that may contain ESD or electrostatic discharge. The processor should be installed in slot 0 of the 1746 chassis. The installation of the processor in any other slot will not allow it to operate.
Furthermore, to prevent overheating, the protective wrapper should be removed from the Allen-Bradley 1747-L553 processor after installation. A 1747-CP3 cable can be used to connect channel 0 on the 1747-L553 processor to a serial port on a computer. A 1747-UIC interface converter can also be used to the connect channel 0 on the processor to the USB port on a computer. Channel 1 on the processor can be used to connect to an Ethernet port on a computer. A replaceable lithium battery is provided on the 1747-L553 processor for providing battery backup to the RAM. This battery can provide backup for up to 2 years. The battery needs to be replace when the BATT indicator on the front panel of the processor indicates that the battery level is low.
