Wire rope is a type of cable which consists of several strands of metal wire laid (twisted) into a helix.
The individual wires are put together in a uniform helical arrangement to form a strand.
A strand typically contains 7 wires (1 x 7) or 19 wires (1 x 19).
"wire rope" refers to diameter larger than 3/8 inch (9.53mm), sizes smaller than this are designated as cable or cords.
