1 Function and mode of action A double pilot valve is a bistable way valve¹ which is reversed to a moving switching element by reciprocal signals. After the signal is withdrawn, the double pilot valve's switching position or status is maintained until a counter-signal is received.

When the load-induced pressure exceeds a preset value, the counterbalance valve opens to allow fluid to flow in the cylinder's retract direction. This prevents uncontrolled movement and provides stability by balancing the forces acting on the cylinder.
