A solenoid valve is an electromechanical device used to control the flow of fluids or gases. It consists of a coil of wire (solenoid) wrapped around a ferromagnetic core, a movable plunger or piston, and an orifice or valve seat.

When an electric current is applied to the solenoid coil, it generates a magnetic field that attracts the movable plunger or piston towards the core. This movement opens or closes the valve, allowing or blocking the flow of the fluid or gas through the orifice.

Solenoid valves are typically classified into two main types based on their functions: normally closed (NC) and normally open (NO) valves. In a normally closed valve, the flow is blocked when the solenoid is not energized, and the valve opens when the solenoid is powered. Conversely, in a normally open valve, the flow is allowed when the solenoid is not energized, and the valve closes when the solenoid is activated.
