Polyester originated from scientific research in the 1930s when DuPont employee W.H. Carothers discovered how to create fibers by combining alcohols with carboxyl acids. The technology was fully developed in 1941 by British scientists C.G. Ritchie and W.K. Birtwhistle, creating the first commercial polyester fiber.
Microfiber, while newer than polyester, has become essential in modern textiles. Its origins are debated among Japanese development in the 1970s, English innovation in the 1980s, and Swedish commercialization in the 1990s. Both materials have proven their value through durability, comfort, and practical performance characteristics.
