Glawall's PDLC (Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal) dimming glass operates through advanced electro-optical technology, enabling seamless transitions between transparency and opacity.
| Layer | Function |
|---|---|
| Outer Glass Panels | 2x tempered glass sheets (5-12mm thickness) for durability/safety |
| PDLC Film | Liquid crystal droplets suspended in polymer matrix (50-200μm thickness) |
| Conductive Coating | Transparent ITO (Indium Tin Oxide) electrodes on both sides |
| Interlayer | PVB or EVA laminate for impact resistance |
- Liquid crystals randomly scatter light (like shattered glass)
- Light transmission: <5% (privacy mode)
- Applications: Confidential meetings, medical exams
- Electric field aligns crystals parallel to light path
- Light transmission: >80% (crystal-clear view)
- Response time: 0.5 seconds (industry fastest)

Dimming glass is composed of a layer of liquid crystal film (polymer dispersed liquid crystal) sandwiched between two pieces of glass. When the power is off, the liquid crystal molecules are arranged in disorder, and the light cannot pass through normally, making the glass appear opaque. When powered on, the liquid crystal molecules align under the electric field, allowing light to penetrate and making the glass transparent.
This dimming function depends on the change of the scattering and transmission characteristics of the liquid crystal molecules to achieve adjustable light transmittance and transparency.
