What is IFETEL.

IFETEL, the full name of Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones, replaced the Mexican Federal Telecommunications Commission (COFETEL) in September 2013. The original COFETEL certification no longer exists. Telecommunications equipment imported into Mexico requires IFETEL certification and approval.

The significance and responsibilities of establishing IFETEL

1. Define the telecommunications and broadcast radio frequency bands that can be used by licensed operators;

2. Grant operating rights and approve any transfer of operating rights;

3. Issue or update telecommunications industry regulations;

4. Identify and regulate telecommunications monopolies.

All access to the Mexican public telecommunications network and radio equipment (including most digital products)

IFETEL certification application process

1. The customer submits samples and information to NTEK

2. Laboratory sample testing, and a test report will be issued after the test is completed.

3. The qualification issuing agency reviews the test report and issues the IFETEL certificate

IFETEL certification testing regulations

NOM-016 (replaces NOM-121): 902-928MHZ, other products/bands after 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz accept FCC or CE.

IFETEL certification mark requirements

COFETEL does not have a professional mark. All products approved under the IFETEL system should be marked as follows:

1. For complete wireless products, mark "IFETEL: xxxxxxxxxxxxx";

2. For host products containing approved modules, mark "This product contains an Approved module, Model No. xxxx, IFETEL No. xxxxxxxxxxxx" (This product contains an approved module, model number is xxxx, IFETEL approval number is xxxxxxxxxxxxx)

IFETEL certification is compulsory certification and does not require factory inspection
