The former is called cylinder sticking, and the latter is called ablation. If the strain or ablation is not serious, you can use a grindstone or relatively fine sandpaper to polish the sticking or ablation area. If it is serious, replace the piston. Sometimes the piston will also crack, mostly at the top of the piston or near the piston pin hole where the mechanical load is greater. When the piston breaks, it should be replaced in time to prevent accidents.
