The brake shoe refers to the accessory that is pushed outward by the action of the brake cam or push rod to suppress the brake drum and exert braking effect. Its shape is like a half-moon shape. During braking, the brake cylinder pushes the two brake shoes outward and rubs against the brake drum. After braking, the return spring contracts to return the shoes to their original position.

  Brake shoes generally consist of two parts: an iron lining plate and friction material. Do not wait until the friction material part is worn away before replacing the shoe. For example, the front brake pads of the Jetta are 14 mm thick when new, but the limit thickness for replacement is 7 mm, including more than 3 mm of iron lining thickness and nearly 4 mm of friction material thickness. Some vehicles have a brake shoe alarm function. Once the wear limit is reached, the instrument will alarm to prompt you to replace the shoe. Shoes that have reached their service limit must be replaced. Even if they can still be used for a period of time, they will reduce the braking effect and affect driving safety.
