Silicon carbide has stable chemical property, high thermal conductivity coefficient, small thermal expansion coefficient and good abrasion resistance. Besides being used as abrasive, it has many other purposes. For example, silicon carbide powder is coated on the inner wall of turbine impeller or cylinder block by special process to improve its abrasion resistance and extend its service life by 1-2 times; It is a kind of advanced refractory material made of it, which is resistant to thermal shock, small in size, light in weight and high in strength, and has good energy saving effect. Low-grade silicon carbide (containing about 85% SiC) is a good deoxidizer, which can accelerate the speed of steel making, facilitate the control of chemical composition and improve the quality of steel. In addition, silicon carbide is also widely used to make silicon carbon rods for electric heating elements.
