Disc shears usually use rotating disc blades to continuously and longitudinally shear moving plates and strips. Sometimes the plates and strips are cut into narrower strips, or their edges are trimmed. When it is used to cut edges, it is usually equipped with an edge shredder to cut the edges into small pieces for easy recycling.

Disc shears can be divided into two forms according to their uses: disc shears for cutting plate edges and disc shears for cutting strip steel. In the former, each disc blade is cantilevered on a separate drive shaft. The number of blades is two pairs. It is used in finishing processing lines of medium and thick plates, cross-cutting units of plate coils and continuous pickling and other operating lines. The blades of the latter are generally fixed on two common transmission shafts (there are also a small number of disc blades fixed on separate transmission shafts). The number of blades is multiple pairs and are used for slitting units of plate coils, continuous annealing and Galvanizing and other work lines.
