Disc shears can be divided into two forms according to their uses: disc shears for cutting plate edges and disc shears for cutting strip steel. In the former, each disc blade is cantilevered on a separate drive shaft. The number of blades is two pairs. It is used in finishing processing lines of medium and thick plates, cross-cutting units of plate coils and continuous pickling and other operating lines.

The blades of the latter are generally fixed on two common transmission shafts (there are also a small number of disc blades fixed on separate transmission shafts). The number of blades is multiple pairs. They are used for slitting units of plate coils, continuous annealing and Galvanizing and other work lines.

The full name of the disc shear is the disc shear. When shearing, the disc shear blade makes continuous circular motion equal to the movement speed of the rolling piece (strip), forming a pair of endless shears.

Disc shears are usually set on the shear line of plates or strips and are used to longitudinally cut both sides of the moving plate or strip so that the edges of the cut strips are neat, precise and burr-free. The blade angle of disc shears is 90 degrees, and the material is generally made of 5CrW2Si or 6CrW2Si. After treatment, the hardness can reach Shore 80---90.
