Zig zag springs are manufactured from hardened spring steel wire and supplied to sofa manufacturers in roll form. The quality and thickness of the wire directly impact dimensional stability and corrosion resistance. Higher quality, thicker wire springs are more durable and reliable, while thinner zig zag springs are typically used in more economical sofa constructions. There are no minimum thickness restrictions.

• Special brackets made of metal or plastic are first secured to the underside of the sofa frame using nails or staples
• The spring wire is cut to the appropriate length using side cutters
• The spring is hooked into the bracket on one side
• A tensioning tool is used to clamp the spring into the bracket on the opposite side
• After all zig zag springs are installed, a protective felt layer is placed over them to prevent friction and slippage against the upholstery material
